Rockwall High School Rosters

2020-2021

We are so excited about next year, and a special welcome to those of you who will be joining us for the first time!
Some answers to common questions about the rosters:

I can't find my name, but I want to be in choir!

Don't panic! Occasionally schedules don't get processed the way you intended but we can fix it! We only posted students who were on the official class rosters from the counselors. You can contact your counselor and request to be placed in choir. You should also send us an email so we can follow-up for you and get the issue resolved as soon as possible.

I didn't get a chance to audition in the Spring, when can I do that?

Students on our rosters that are new to our program have been placed in the appropriate choirs. We will still listen to all non-auditioned students during the first week of school to make sure that you are in the right place.

The choir that I'm in won't fit in my schedule.

We will do all that we can to make your schedule work; however, keep in mind that we do not promote students to an advanced group due to schedule conflicts. Our wonderful counselors can get pretty creative with schedules, so don't give up - we want you to sing!

Wait, what happened to some of the old choirs?

RHS Choir is restructuring for this upcoming year. Rest assured you are going to be part of an awesome ensemble this fall!

What determined which choir I was placed in?

Student placement was determined by several factors:

  • Sightreading Ability

  • Vocal Tone

  • Individual Contribution

    • Listens in rehearsals to teachers and other students, is concentrated/focused

    • Respects school property/ choir rules

    • Choral skills in rehearsals and in concerts

    • Prepared and on time to rehearsals/performances

    • Advanced Opportunities (All-Region, Solo & Ensemble, Campus Musical, etc.)

In addition to your individual contribution and abilities, the department takes into account what will create the best learning and musical experience for all students. Ensemble balance, individual ability and commitment, and an overall supportive, positive, and successful day-to-day experience is considered when crafting ensembles.

For Chorale, RHS Choir's Varsity ensemble, only 10th-12th graders were considered this year, and an attempt was made to make the ensemble just a little more leaner and meaner by limiting membership overall. The exception will be for any incoming freshman who earns a spot in one of our A Cappella ensembles, Sting or Walk the Line. We hope to maintain in-person auditions for these groups by postponing auditions to Fall of 2020.

What will auditions for Sting and Walk the Line look like? When will they take place? (Updated July 24, 2020)

During this time, information and preparations are fluid, so we will do our best to keep you up to date on any changes. You can do that by following us on our socials (see Follow Us at the bottom of this page), as well as the socials for Sting and Walk the Line. Returning members are required to re-audition.

Auditions take place in 2 rounds:

  1. Barrier - Prepare a Solo | Virtual (Due August 1)

    • Prepare a solo of your choice to show off your voice. It does not need to be flashy or filled with runs. Use a solo that you can do well that shows you at your best. We encourage you to use a back-up karaoke track (NOT the song itself, we don't want you to be singing along with the original artist).

    • Tips:

      • Step back from the device you are using to record. You will feel more encouraged to "open up" and "sing out" if you give yourself space.

      • Open up window blinds if you can to get good, natural light into the room so we can see you - just make sure the light is on your face and not your back!

      • A little stage presence and confidence goes a long way!

      • You must be logged into your Rockwall ISD student Google account to access the attached Google Form.

      • Google Classroom Code: jzzk6zh

  2. Callbacks - Choreography & Mock-Rehearsal | In-Person (August 8)

    • After Round 1, a list of students advancing to Round 2 will be posted. Round 2 will include learning choreography. This is not to see who is necessarily the best dancer, but how well the student can adapt and take instruction. Round 2 will also include a mock-rehearsal.

    • We will provide you with sheet music, part tracks, and audition safety guidelines after the Barrier to look over before Callbacks. Be prepared on the music before you arrive. This round is to see how well you rehears and how quickly you can adapt. This includes singing in quartets to see how strong you are on your own. Judges will assess individual ability to hold a part as well as preferable contribution to an ensemble sound.
